It may be the beginning of winter, but it’s not too early to start planning next year’s garden. I just got my first package of carrot seeds and am going to try growing some ‘root crops’ for next year. Some time back I heard a story where someone’s garden was torn up by storms and the only thing that survived were their root crops that were protected by the earth. With weather being what it is (crazy) that is something to think about. Does anyone have any experience with root crops? If so, what have you grown. While I am nowhere close to being able to survive off my garden, every little bit helps. Stories like the one below periodically serve as a reminder that food is a valuable resource not to be wasted, and anyone who has the ability to grow even a fraction of their own food should at least try to do it.
